In an exciting encounter at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, the clash between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 took center stage in the 6th match of the tournament. The contest saw domination from UP Warriorz where they claimed a 7-wicket win and opened their account in the tournament.
Hayley Matthews drives Mumbai Indians to a decent total
After being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians began their innings with a solid start, posting a competitive total of 161/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Hayley Matthews led the charge with a splendid knock of 55 runs off 47 deliveries.
She was well supported by contributions from Yastika Bhatia (26), Natalie Sciver (19), and Amelia Kerr (23). Pooja Vastrakar and Issy Wong added valuable runs towards the end to bolster the total.
Kiran Navgire sizzles with the bat
However, UP Warriorz came out with a determined batting display in response. Alyssa Healy (33) and Kiran Prabhu Navgire (57) set the tone with aggressive batting, followed by impactful contributions from Grace Harris (38) and Deepti Sharma (27).
Despite some resistance from the Mumbai Indians Women bowlers, UP Warriorz chased down the target comfortably, reaching 163/3 in just 16.3 overs. Issy Wong was the standout bowler for Mumbai Indians Women, claiming 2 wickets for 30 runs in her 3 overs. However, their efforts weren’t enough to contain the powerful batting lineup of UP Warriorz, who secured victory by 7 wickets.

Kiran Navgire has treated the crowd today to some crazy good shots. When she’s on sing like this, there’s hardly a batter who comes close to her in hitting in Indian cricket. Great move by Jon Lewis and Healy to allow her to open. #MIvUPW
