The Best Sports Bars in Houston

[ad_1]

Batter up, sports fans. While it’s sometimes nice to scream at your TV in the privacy of your own home while watching a game, it’s much more fun to do so in public (and almost always leads to fewer noise complaints or welfare checks). Fortunately, Houston is home to many sports bars, and almost all of them are known for being raucous spots where public yelling is—mostly—permitted. No matter what kind of sports you’re into, whether you’re watching the Super Bowl or the World Series, there’s sure to be a sports bar in Houston that meets your particular tastes. Here are some of our favorites.

On the Kirb

Multiple locations

Each of On the Kirb’s three Houston locations in Upper Kirby, Midtown, and Katy offers a slightly different menu. Expect to find a variety of food and drink while watching the game, such as pizza, steaks, salads, and both regular and vegetarian-friendly burgers. For refreshment, order one of the bar’s signature cocktails, like That One Thyme at Band Camp, a classic movie reference made drinkable with Austin-based Tito’s Handmade Vodka, grapefruit juice, and a thyme sprig garnish.

Patterson Park

Heights

Patterson Park is a dog-friendly sports bar in the Heights that hosts a variety of specials throughout the week. The bar has a revolving food truck schedule with different cuisines to pair with a glass of wine, draft beer, or some unique cocktails. One of our favorite drinks on the menu is the Booker Tea, a boozy variation of one of Texas’s other favorites, sweet tea. Patterson Park’s laid-back patio atmosphere makes it a great spot to bond with other sports fans while collectively cheering on your favorite team.

Nick’s Place

Westchase

Come to Nick’s Place for Italian food like pizza and calzones and the 40 TVs playing soccer, rugby, baseball, college football, and probably any other sport you can think of. If you’re not that into sports, it’s still a worthwhile spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, meaning you can at least enjoy a nice meal there as your companions get their screen time in.

The Den

Multiple Locations

The Den is a standard on-campus student haunt with Cougar football on the big screens, 30 craft beers on tap, and basic bar food like sandwiches, chips and queso, chicken tender baskets, and brisket fries. The menu also includes a full liquor selection. The walls are decked out with eight flat-screen TVs and a 200-inch projection screen—the most ideal situation when watching multiple games.

Biggio’s

Downtown

Named after Astros legend Craig Biggio, this downtown bar is located at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, right by Discovery Green. The Biggio’s beverage menu is expansive and offers everything from signature cocktails to over 20 beers from local breweries. The bar’s food menu includes choice snacks perfect for whatever big game you’re planning on watching and includes everything from smoked meats to tacos. Since it’s home to two 30-foot HDTV screens, it’s just about one of the best places to watch a game in town.

Little Woodrow’s

Multiple locations

With locations all over Houston and a huge variety of special and seasonal events—including movie trivia and turtle races—there’s always something going on at a Little Woodrow’s. Catch every University of Houston college football game of the season there while you (and your dog) hang out on the patio with a ranch water and a slice of pizza.

The Cellar Bar

Upper Kirby

This neighborhood sports bar offers games to watch and to play. Order bar snacks from a short and sweet menu while you enjoy an Astros game, or choose to compete in foosball, darts, or video game championships with friends. Texas-brewed and imported beers are available, as is a great selection of both cocktails and mocktails. The bar also offers CBD infusions for its drinks, a perfect option for those who get a bit too stressed on game day.

Pour Behavior

Midtown

This Montrose sports bar has a lot to offer, including nearly 50 big-screen TVs. Pour Behavior is also known for hosting some of the best watch parties for Astros playoffs, UFC fights, and college football games. Its cocktail menu offers both signature and classic drinks, along with 25 local craft beers to go with your choice of pizza, burgers, or appetizers like calamari. You can also rent out the bar for private events. Be sure to keep an eye on Pour Behavior’s Instagram for other social events, like Friday night happy hour with live music from local bands.

Post Oak Ice House

Galleria

With two very large projectors and over a dozen large TV screens, Post Oak Ice House is a stellar spot for watching your favorite sports game. During commercial breaks, play a round or two of corn hole while sipping on a brew from the bar’s constantly rotating beer menu. And if hops aren’t your thing, try a cocktail while lounging on one of the bar’s giant Adirondack chairs.

Drift Bar

Heights

With over 50 TVs (two of them over 200 inches) Drift Bar is a great spot to sup in your favorite game. As the name implies, the island vibes are strong here, and its dog-friendly and open-air patio makes it a great spot to enjoy some time in the sun. The venue offers rotating food trucks weekly and a variety of unique drinks like the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, made with tequila, mezcal, and other Mexican and Caribbean flavors, sweetened with agave. A number of wines and draft beers are also on offer.

Social Beer Garden HTX

Midtown

Watch your favorite teams all season long at Social Beer Garden HTX. In addition to having plenty of screens, the bar is home to an expansive beer menu. Have your pick from nearly 50 beers on draft or over 100 beverages by the bottle. There’s also seltzers, ciders, mead, and kombucha. While the bar rotates food trucks throughout the week, it’s also home to a Pizzaforno, an automated artisan pizza machine that provides fresh pizza to guests every day of the week.

The Maple Leaf Pub

Midtown

This Canadian pub and Midtown neighborhood watering hole is heavy on the hockey action—making it a rare spot in Houston. Although the bar has been a longtime staple for Houston’s hockey fans, its screens also regularly display football, baseball, and basketball. The pub’s kitchen is open late, perfect for post-game poutine cravings.

Christians Tailgate

Multiple Locations

Burger restaurants are serious business in Houston. At Christians, you can keep your belly filled as you’re watching the big game with one of the restaurant’s signature burgers, which come with toppings like chili, mushrooms, and bacon. Other classics here include chicken fajita nachos, mango habanero hot wings, steak fingers, and, of course, cheap pitchers of beer. Known for their open-air concepts and large number of screens, Christians Tailgate locations are some of the best seats to watch a game in the city.

Pitch 25 Beer Park

East Downtown

Toast to your favorite local soccer team at Pitch 25 Beer Park, located just a short walk away from Shell Energy Stadium. With nearly 100 beers on tap you’ll have plenty of liquid refreshment as you watch the Dynamo or Dash play. The 25,000-square-foot beer garden includes an indoor soccer pitch and breezy outdoor patio, making it a soccer fan’s dream drinking location. As you watch your team score on one of the TVs, let your taste buds score by feasting on some food from the bar.
