Review: Krispy Kreme – Chocomania Donuts

[ad_1]

A dozen Krispy Kreme Chocomania Donuts in a box.

Krispy Kreme’s Chocomania Donuts are a collection of four donuts featuring Hershey’s chocolate. The donuts include the Hershey’s Galaxy Brownie, Hershey’s Black & White Chocolate Chip Dream, Hershey’s Chocolate Cake Overload, and the Hershey’s Chocolate Iced.

A dozen costs $22.99 in my area of Los Angeles but I received these courtesy of Krispy Kreme.

The Hershey’s Galaxy Brownie Donut seems to have been inspired by galaxy or galactic brownies, which are brownies topped with fudge icing and colorful sprinkles. Krispy Kreme’s donut version offers a yeast shell donut filled with Hershey’s Special Dark Fudge Kreme dipped in Hershey’s chocolate icing and topped with crunchy brownie pieces and rainbow sprinkles.

The filling had a moderate dark chocolate flavor but was a little bit runny and well with the soft, airy donut. The chocolate icing was mildly chocolaty and very sweet, while the brownie pieces added some more chocolaty flavor but were softened rather than crunchy. The rainbow sprinkles picked up the slack in terms of crunch, however.

The Hershey’s Black & White Chocolate Chip Dream Donut was inspired by the black & white cookie. It features an Original Glazed ring donut dipped in white icing and decorated with a drizzle of Hershey’s chocolate icing and mini chocolate chips. Between the glaze and the white icing, the donut was overly sweet to the point that the chocolaty icing and mini chocolate chips were almost rendered moot in terms of flavor. The chips were good for a nice crunch though.

The Hershey’s Chocolate Cake Overload Donut is a Hershey’s fudge old-fashioned cake donut dipped in Hershey’s milk chocolate icing and topped with a dollop of Hershey’s dark chocolate fudge buttercream. The cake was moist and decently chocolaty, while the icing and dark chocolate fudge buttercream added different levels of chocolate as well as different textures.

The Hershey’s Chocolate Iced Donut was probably the closest to a regular menu item as it’s a slight variation on the chain’s Chocolate Iced Donut. It consists of an Original Glazed ring donut dipped in Hershey’s milk chocolate icing and decorated with a chocolate drizzle. It just slightly chocolaty than its regular menu counterpart.

Out of Krispy Kreme’s four Chocomania Donuts, my favorites were the Chocolate Cake Overload Donut and the Hershey’s Galaxy Brownie Donut as they provided the most chocolaty punch. If I had to pick between those, it’s close but I think I’d go with the Chocolate Cake Overload Donut as the textures were better.
