Pro XC Bike You Can Buy: Ltd. Ed. Canyon Lux World Cup CFR Untamed for the Cape Epic
[ad_1]
Another custom Cape Epic cross-country bike for the week is this limited Canyon Lux World Cup CFR Untamed edition being raced by the Canyon-Sidi team duos. Plus, it’s a pro XC bike that you can actually buy now. Canyon made a limited number of Untamed team replica race bikes available in their online shop today. With the same top-level XTR & DT Swiss spec they are racing at the moment in South Africa – and at a surprisingly reasonable pricetag, all things considered.
They even feature early access to one unique bit of as-yet-unreleased carbon tech that you can’t get anywhere else…
Limited edition Canyon Lux World Cup CFR Untamed XC MTB
As the Absa Cape Epic nears its end, Canyon just dropped a custom team replica bike, i.e. this limited edition Canyon Lux World Cup CFR Untamed.
Inspired by the national animal of South Africa – the springbok antelope – Canyon then, painted the bikes of their two Canyon-Sidi team duos in a golden, brown & white that could blend in with the herd.
“Agile in harsh surroundings, lighting fast and fleet footed, while remarkably durable given its light weight, the springbok has evolved to thrive on the trails.” So, I thought they were talking about the bike for a second, there.
Tech Details
“The Lux World Cup Untamed works perfectly for me at the Cape Epic because it’s such a transformer. I can grind it out in a super stable aero position but also send it on the unpredictable downhills with almost the feeling of an enduro bike. It always feels like the perfect choice.”
– Andreas Seewald, Canyon-Sidi former XCM marathon World Champion
The special Untamed edition bike is the same Canyon Lux World Cup CFR introduced 2 summers ago. But here the 1575g CFR frame is built up with an extra centimeter of fork suspension to slightly slacken it out and take on more aggressive terrain. Built with top-level DT Swiss 232 One suspension, the 29er Lux WC CFR Untamed features 100mm of rear wheel travel mated to a 110mm fork for its XC marathon build.
“It’s not only the length that makes the Cape Epic so hard but also the rough terrain, countless kilometres of singletrails and lots of climbing. For these conditions Lux World Cup CFR Untamed works perfectly. It’s comfortable but also stiff and fast. To me is great to ride a bike I can rely on during all race week and still have some fun on the trails.”
– Martin Stošek, Canyon-Sidi

Canyon Lux WC CFR Untamed – Pricing & availability
But, Canyon made just 100 of these special XC race weapons for the 20th-anniversary edition of the premier South African MTB stage-race. They offer them in the full five-size range (XS-XL), but numbers seem limited in certain sizes. My size Large says it would be delivered in 3-10 working days, though.
The Canyon Lux World Cup CFR Untamed edition sells for 8000€ with this pro-replica XTR build. You get 110/100mm DT Swiss 232 One suspension, and unreleased all-new DT Swiss XRC 1200 carbon wheels – at a claimed 10.44kg complete. That’s certainly not cheap. But in a world of 10,000€+ superbikes with all-electronic automatic everything, there’s something to be said for classic light mechanical setups.
Act fast if you want a bike that can at once blend in with the pack AND stand out from the field.
