Pink Lipstick That Looks Amazing On Brunettes With Fair Skin – Beth Ferguson
[ad_1]
By now, my regular blog post readers know I love wearing lipstick. Something about swiping my lips with some color each day makes me feel ready to tackle my day. And nothing says spring to me more than some great pink lipstick.
When you think of pink lipstick there are so many variations of the shade out there. We have to consider if we are looking for a great everyday pink or a wow bright pink. Pink lipstick can have blue, purple, orange, or yellow undertones. Now how do we figure out which ones work best with our brunette hair? Well, our skin tone and the shade of our brunette hair lead us to the answer.
So before we figure out the best pink lipstick for you, you might like to check out some of my other lipstick posts.

Pink Lipstick and Brunette Hair Do Go Together
So I am going to break down some things to consider and look for in your search for your perfect shade of pink lipstick. Typically cool skin undertones look best in pinks that have blue and purple undertones. Warm undertone skin looks good in shades that have orange and yellow undertones. Now if you have neutral undertones, you are lucky and can pull off almost any shade of pink your heart desires.
What about our hair color undertones? A general rule of thumb with brunette hair is that we can get away with color on our face regardless of our skin tone. Usually, darker hair looks great with richer bolder colors. If you are a medium brown then you might want to play with colors that aren’t quite as bold. Remember to have fun experimenting with colors until you find the ones that make you feel fabulous.
Brunette Hair Colors
Not only do we have to consider the undertones of our fair skin, but also the shade of our hair. Depending upon your shade of brunette, the color undertones of your hair will vary. Brunette hair can range from chestnut which is a lighter brown with golden undertones to a mocha brown which is a rich dark brown shade. In between that, you could be a dark brown which is a muted brown color, or chocolate brown which has red undertones. The next time you see your stylist, just come out and ask them about the color undertones in your hair. They will be able to tell you if they are warm or cool. Who knows you might want to ask them to change things up a bit for you.
If you are like me, you tend to lighten your brunette locks up a bit with highlights when warm weather rolls around. In the winter, I go a little deeper and have more lowlights put in my hair.
Color Undertones and Fair Skin
Fair skin usually has cool undertones. However, sometimes you can have neutral skin undertones. Knowing your skin undertones will help you so much not only for choosing your makeup, but also your clothing. Once you can match up your undertones you will immediately notice that everything you put on suddenly looks amazing and enhances your natural beauty.
How to determine your skin undertones?
There are two easy ways to help you determine your skin undertones.
- Look at your veins. If they appear green, then you have a warm skin tone. If they appear blue or purple, then you have cool undertones. Can’t tell if they are green or blue, then you have a neutral undertone.
- How does your skin respond to the sun? Do you tan easily (warm undertone) or do you burn easily (cool undertone)? No matter your undertone you should always wear sunscreen.

Lipstick formulas and Finishes
We all have preferences as to how we like our lips to feel. Some like a creamy feel to our lipstick while others want all-day staying power. The formula of the lipstick can determine the pigment and the staying power. Once you know your lipstick application preferences it will help you determine which formula is best for you.
When you go shopping for lipstick you will find several categories or formulas of lipstick. Each of the categories has the positives and negatives.
Sheer
Looking for a touch of color and shine? If so, this is the formulation for you. It is usually made with a higher oil content which means that it is less likely to dry out. This is one of the most classic lipstick formulations and is a great choice for everyday wear. Many brands also offer moisturizing versions of this lipstick which is a plus. Be prepared to apply this formula more often because of that.
Cream
Cream lipstick is very similar to sheer lipstick. It glides on easily and provides a balance of texture with just a hint of gloss. Cream lipstick is higher in wax so it has a bit more staying power than sheer lipstick. It can also have nourishing ingredients such as aloe and vitamin E so check your labels.
Gloss
Want to lighten up the lips for the warmer months? Look for a great gloss for this look. They are great to wear when heavily pigmented formula colors are a bit too heavy. Remember that lighter shades of gloss can add a youthful glow to daytime looks. Brighter glosses are made to be worn at parties, evening soirees, and when you want your lips to get some attention.
Matte
Matte is a formula that should be in every woman’s lipstick collection. It is the opposite of the gloss. Matte is a pure color with a smooth, even texture when it goes on your lips. It is not for your everyday look, but for when you want your lips to see and be seen. This formula has greater staying power but can be drying. Make sure you do the prep work before pulling this out. You will want to make sure you use a good lip liner for this formula.
Stain
Lip stains are all about color, minimal shine, and staying power. If you don’t have time to reapply often or don’t like to reapply this formula is for you. Check the ingredients to make sure there are some hydrating elements or stains that can be very drying. Also, be aware that you have to be very careful when applying. It’s not easy to correct mistakes with this type of lip color.
My Favorite Pink Lipstick
Now let’s take a look at some of my tried and true favorite pink lipsticks. I am going to break it down by lipsticks, lip glosses, and clean beauty. Just for the record, I consider myself a medium to dark brunette. I have cool skin undertones and my lips are naturally quite pink. That is probably because my skin has pink undertones and sometimes a little hint of yellow. The yellow surprised me, but my aesthetician who knows my skin well told me that was the case.
Lipsticks
Urban Decay
Urban Decay Art Walk is a great medium rose pink. The Vice lipsticks by Urban Decay are a creamy vegan formula that is infused with avocado oil and aloe vera. So even though this lipstick is a matte finish it is not drying at all. I wear this as a fun, pop of pink for every day. You can find this lipstick at Sephora or Ulta.
Another great pink by Urban Decay for brunettes is Figueroa. It is a beautiful warm coral pink. As a side note, one product by this brand that is always in my cosmetic tray is their All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray with Vitamin C. I use it on my entire face every day that I put makeup on my face. It is so hydrating and gives your makeup a radiant finish all day long.
Charlotte Tilbury
Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks just seem to be accumulating in my lipstick organizer regularly. Her matte lipsticks are long-lasting, and hydrating, and you can build the color with an extra layer of so if you desire. Gracefully Pink is an amazing pink coral so, in my opinion, a great warm-weather color that will go with so much. Pillow Talk is my go-to nude pink. You can find both colors at Sephora or Nordstrom.
Lip Crayons/Big Pencils
Laura Mercier
The Laura Mercier Petal Soft lipstick is a soft matte lip color that makes your lips petal soft. This hydrating formula comes in two great shades of pink for brunettes. Ophelie is a bright blue pink and Simone is a pretty rose berry that is a little softer color. You can find both of these colors at Sephora or Nordstrom.
Nars
The Nars Lip Pencil is the convenience of a lip pencil that goes on just like lipstick. Just think of the big fat jumbo crayons that we had as kids and that will help you visualize this product. I like to wear this type of lipstick when I am carrying a small handbag or belt bag because they are so convenient. The two pinks in this pencil are great daytime colors. They are a little softer. The other option is that you can layer them with something brighter to tone down a color if you wish.
American Woman is a chestnut rose. Dolce Vita is a dusty rose. Both are great softer colors for warm weather.
Lip Gloss
I have always been a lip gloss kind of girl. One thing that I have adjusted as I have aged is that I don’t always put gloss on my entire lips. Yes, I will just put it in the middle of my lower and upper lips to pop my lipstick.
Nars
Nars Afterglow Lip Shine Gloss will glide on your lips with a mirror-like shine. This shimmering mauve, Unbroken, is great with many pink lipsticks. I also like to keep a tube of their clear and A-Lister for when I just want a pop of shine. The A-Lister has just a tiny hint of gold which puts a beautiful glow to some colors. You can find it at Nordstrom or Sephora.
IT Cosmetics
IT Cosmetics Pillow Lips solid Serum Lip Gloss is a great one-and-done product when want nourishing color, but not a lot of it. This is a product that I love to keep in my purse when I am out running errands and need to swipe something on quickly and not worry about “staying in the lines”. IT Cosmetics has two great shades of pink. Marvelous is a warm pink and 11:11 is a bright fuschia. As a side note, Wink, a soft coral is one of my all-time favorites to pull out in warm weather.
Clean Beauty
I always like to include a few clean beauty products in my posts. For the last few years, I have been seeking out more clean beauty products that I like and that work.
Westman Atalier has a great Squeaky Clean Hydrating Lip balm that I like. I ordered a duo of the Baby Cheeks Blush Lip + Cheek Cream Stick Dou Dou with the Ma Puce Lip Balm. The two go great together or you can use them as stand alones. I also like the Poppet for a brighter pink in the summertime. It would be great with this lighter pink balm over it.
