Miss Universe Pageant with Rumy Alqahtani took to Instagram to announce her role as the Kingdom’s inaugural contestant in the international beauty pageant.

Saudi Arabia reached a significant milestone by making its inaugural appearance in the Miss Universe pageant this year. The global event is scheduled to occur in Mexico on September 18.

In an Instagram announcement, 27-year-old Rumy Alqahtani disclosed her involvement as the Kingdom’s pioneer contestant in the international beauty pageant.

“I feel honored to be part of the Miss Universe 2024 competition. This signifies Saudi Arabia’s inaugural participation in the Miss Universe pageant,” stated the Riyadh-born model and content creator in her Monday post.

Alqahtani joins in the path set by Lujane Yacoub of Bahrain, who represented her country in the Miss Universe pageant last year, marking the first instance of a woman from the Gulf region doing so.

Alqahtani’s role in empowering Saudi women is celebrated as a significant milestone. According to a report by Gulf Today, she previously represented the Kingdom in various international competitions, such as Miss Asia in Malaysia, Miss Arab Peace, and Miss Europe.

She was crowned Miss Saudi Arabia and holds titles like Miss Middle East (Saudi Arabia), Miss Arab World Peace 2021, and Miss Woman (Saudi Arabia). Additionally, she boasts a million followers on Instagram and thousands more across other social media platforms. She also possesses a Bachelor’s degree in dentistry and fluency in English, French, and Arabic.

This historic move mirrors the continuous transformation of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

MBS, the 38-year-old de facto ruler, has overseen changes in the country’s history since he became crown prince in June 2017. He led the ambitious “Vision 2030” plan, which aims to bring social and economic reforms to Saudi Arabia.

Under his leadership, Saudi Arabia has allowed women to drive, attend public sporting events and concerts alongside men, and obtain passports without male guardian approval. Additionally, the Kingdom has lifted its ban on cinemas and promoted mixed-gender events, signaling a significant departure from its traditional norms.
