Method Heavy Duty Degreaser: I Tried It

Although gas ranges typically heat food much faster than electric ranges, I’ve always preferred the latter when it came to my own stove. I hate the gas smell, and cooking with an open flame just seems dicey. The one major downside of an electric stove, however, is that oil splatter is much more apparent. Because the surface is flat and dark, every greasy speck stands out. So when I moved into an apartment with my preferred type of stove a couple of months ago, I quickly learned that I’d need an effective surface cleaner to combat cooking messes. And because I live with two roommates who like to cook as much as I do, the messes occur frequently. I poked around online and came across the Method Heavy Duty Degreaser, which is available at Grove Co. for $5. It looked like exactly what I needed, so I decided to give it a try. Now this spray cleaner never leaves the counter by my stove.

Like all of Method’s products, the Heavy Duty Degreaser is made without harmful chemicals, including parabens or phthalates. This is good especially if you use it around the areas where you cook and handle food. Although I bought mine specifically for the stove, you can also use it on stainless steel and other hard surfaces except for glass, ceramic, marble, and aluminum. The cleaner also has a light, pleasant lemon smell that quickly disappears, and one bottle gets you 28 ounces of the liquid. For reference, I’ve been using it every day, sometimes multiple times a day, for about two months, and I still haven’t used up even half the bottle. And although it’s mainly intended for quick cleanups, you could technically use the degreaser on tough, stuck-on messes. Just spray the dirty area, leave it on for three minutes, and wipe off the grime.

Like I said, I don’t really use the degreaser for deep cleaning, but I reach for it after almost every meal to wipe the oil off my stove. I’ve also used it to clean the inside and outside of my microwave, as well as the countertop, and it leaves every surface sparkling. Whereas I used to keep the spray in the cabinet under the sink with the rest of my cleaning supplies, I now reach for it so frequently that I just keep it on the counter. Of course, I’m not the only one who loves the degreaser; many Grove Co. shoppers also count it as their go-to surface cleaner. “Bought this with the hopes it would just be okay, but WOW! Color me impressed,” one reviewer wrote. “It easily liquifies stubborn grease, AND it works well as an oven maintenance cleaner. Spray, wait, scrub, and rinse. That’s it! And it smells lovely.” Another shopper even noted that she sprays some over her sink stopper if she notices that her sink is slow to drain, so maybe that’s something I’ll eventually try, too.

In short, there’s no reason not to try the Heavy Duty Degreaser — especially when five bucks gets you a substantial amount of it. I already plan on repurchasing, but I still have a ways to go with my current bottle.
