May 2023 Passive Income Update — Passive Canadian Income
[ad_1]
- 3 sources of passive Income
- $340.10 from dividends
- 0 stocks/units dripped in May
- Trailing 12 Month Portfolio Return -1.25%
It looks like for the first time in a while we have under performed the market if we average both those out. Still pretty close.
The market keeps doing its thing but there’s some sectors that seem to be screaming values at the moment. Banks, Telco’s and Reit’s. Maybe I would even add healthcare in there, of course for that sector you gotta go south of the border.
Bank’s offer a nice yield at the moment but Im sure we will continue to see more loan loss provisions. I don’t think they will be shooting up in price any time soon. Td buying back up to 30 million shares is pretty nice here though =)
Meanwhile Tech is on a hell of a tear once again. I built our Microsoft position up to 5% of our portfolio on their dip and now its over 8%.. I keep debating trimming but there’s just so much to like about Microsoft.
Life
As I said in my last post work has kept me very busy, but last week I got pretty sick. I think it was my body telling me to slow the fu^& down.. We know we need too but just don’t. Life is all about balance and ideally we get that perfect life/work/ relationship balance but its hard in the spring.
Anywho…
My sons rep soccer keeps things interesting. Its now 3 days a week and pretty fun to watch. He has played a practice in Tim horton’s field and even got to walkout with the forge fc players and play a game during halftime there. Very cool!
The weather has been fantastic so we have been taking advantage of that by going to the beach and stuff like that.
We still have our seasons pass at wonderland and went there mothers day. The place was pretty dead. But the best part was our daughter who is 5 has been so excited to go on the big roller coasters because she grew.. To our surprise she is now tall enough to go on the ghoster coaster and did we ever…. She had sooo much fun, we went on like 5 times in a row (like I said it was dead, right off the ride and back on – no lines)
It’s pretty sweet being able to now go on the rides all together without one of us sitting back waiting with her. On a side note if you didn’t know I’ve always hated coasters as I hate heights. Well I have been pushing myself to get over those fears and actually did the vortex last time. Big steps…. haha anyways that was awesome, ready for the next one.

May Stock Purchases
This month we made 3 separate purchases.
We decided the time was right to increase our holdings in Nutrien. Fertilizers will continue to play a vital role in our future of food and Nutrien is one of the best plays in that space. They also raised their dividend by 10% this year and I always try to grow positions we hold if they do that.
We bought 12 shares at $87.52 per share. The price is even better currently so we may add more in the future. This purchase adds $25.44 usd yearly in forward income.
Couche-Tard – This company has done very well for us and the dividend raises have been massive. Will the change to electric really destroy the business? I dont think so. I like the move diversifying into the car wash space as well.
We added 21 more shares at 66.21 per share. This adds 11.76 in forward income.
TD Bank – We continue to rebuild this position. We added 14 more shares at 78.30 per share. This adds 53.76 to our forward income.
All in all we added $90.96 in future yearly dividend income with these purchases.
Total added forward dividend income – $410.23
Bitcoin
Bitcoin has basically went sideways lately, but we continue to put 20 bucks a week into it. (June is a different story though!)
decided to go with shakepay because it is regulated in Canada and you shake the phone daily to get some free sats (bitcoin). They recently changed the way shaking sats is done. You get a certain amount per day now

Financial Goals Update
Charities
Etf Monthly Minimum Purchase of $250
- This month we added 0 more units of xaw etf.
- Questrade* is great because it offers free etf trades and cheaper stock trading options than most Canadian brokers. $250.00 a month would kill us if we needed to pay high trading fees.
- * Note the questrade link is a affiliate link and at no additional cost to you, I would get a little payment if you were to sign up. You could get $50 in free trades by using my affiliate link though.
We didn’t add this month as I felt like our purchases offered a better opportunity at the moment.
May 2023 Passive Income Conclusion
While the overall income is lower yet again, it feels good to be debt free. The totals continue to climb back up and with new capital we will be setting new records soon enough once again. I hope you all had a great month as well.
The year is flying, go out there and enjoy it!
