With St. Patrick’s Day about a month away, Pubs are on a lot of people’s minds. Everyone is starting to make plans for the day and it can be difficult to know where to start looking, especially if you might just be visiting town for the holiday. It falls on a Friday this year, so the city will be lively all weekend for the celebration! Some people want a place with history, some with the best beer options, the list of necessities is very important, as it gets pretty crowded and this is definitely something you will want to plan ahead. With hundreds of spots in New York City, how do you choose the best option for you and your crew?
Here are 15 pubs and Irish bars to check out for St. Patrick’s Day!
If you want a place with history, this is it! It’s been around since the 1850’s and this spot is loved not just by those visiting town, but the locals, as well. Their site has their entire history on it, which is super cool! They have their own famous ale and lager, but take note: they are cash only! It’s a great place to start the day out for a bar crawl with a pint of guinness on March 17th!
This spot took 6 whole years of planning and dreaming to become a reality. It’s located in Fidi and if you’re on the hunt for the best Irish Whiskey, I highly suggest you check them out! The food specials are another great attraction! It’s near Stone Street, so prime location for a pub crawl.
If you want to head out to Brooklyn to try to escape the NYC madness, I don’t blame you! The Wicked Monk is where you will want to be! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, a great food menu and the best Irish drinks out there. It’s a big party there and what better time to celebrate your Irish heritage than at st pat’s day bars?
The West Village and Greenwich Village have become the IT spots of the year. If you’re looking to hang out in that area of town, you have to visit this place! Virtually every subway line is near there, so it shouldn’t be difficult to get to. This local pub is one where everyone knows each other and the Guinness are flying. It’s a cozy spot where the atmosphere does all the talking, they don’t even need Shamrock decor to get into the Irish spirit! This neighborhood bar is one of the best places to check out. See their site for further details and specials!
If you’re in the Gramercy area, here is your pub for the holiday! It was established in 1895, and while changes have definitely been made since then, this place is truly a traditional Irish Pub. It lasted through Prohibition as a grocery store and was purchased in 1964 and taken over a few times since. Something that makes this place stand out, is that they serve not only lunch and dinner, but brunch, as well!
Okay, this is a really cool bar to check out! They have live music, I feel like that is so rare these days. Obviously they serve Guinness, as well as other rotating taps. Take your friends here! It’s got great traditional Irish flare and at the top of our list for great Irish American pubs with guinness pints and serves as an Irish haven.
East Village folks, this one is for you! The Scratcher is an Irish term for going to bed for the night, and that’s just what you will do after all that Guinness! They have great bites and a casual ambiance, which is perfect for the holiday.
Finally, an Uptown location! Located on the Upper West Side, this pub was opened to celebrate those writers and poets who have passed on. Their memories and spirits live on at this establishment! This is a really cool spot and they have a fantastic cocktail menu, as well as an Irish Whiskey menu.
Located in the Financial District, this pub will be a hot spot for the day! They have a full restaurant menu on top of having all the classic drinks you can hope for.
Another great Fidi spot, this pub is a fantastic option for the holiday! They even have big tv’s if there’s a big game that weekend! I think what makes this location stand out, is that they have a full rooftop to enjoy.
This is a popular spot, not just for St. Paddy’s Day, but always in the city. It’s a restaurant and bar inside of a vault, does it get any cooler than that?! This is definitely less of a casual vibe, so if you’re looking for that, this is where you need to be!
This pub is right by MSG and The Empire State Building, so if you are visiting town for the holiday and want to see some cool parts of the city, this is a great spot! If you live in midtown, this is a great option for you, as well! It’s a cute pub with great specials and all the Guinness you can drink!
Another midtown favorite is Feile! There’s a good amount of space in there, which is important these days especially, but also you won’t feel swamped. They also air any games that are on, so those of you who don’t want to go out in fear of missing a game, they’ve got your back!
The name of this pub is so fun! This spot has some absolutely fantastic food to pair with a Guinness, if I may say so! It’s another spot the locals love, so it isn’t a tourist destination really just because it’s in midtown.
Finishing off with another Financial District gem, this pub is everything you are looking for! The bar is 101 years old and was shipped straight from Belfast, how’s that history for you? If you’re looking for some great fish and chips to pair with your beer, you need to go here!
