Hidden car park spot serves roti canai with runny egg, flooded with dhal

I used to work at different shopping malls during my university years, and Sunway Pyramid was one of them. I vividly recall the challenge of finding budget meals amid the upscale dining options. Recently, I stumbled upon ABC One Cafeteria at Sunway Pyramid online, albeit a bit late. Nonetheless, I was intrigued enough to give it a try.
The location of the establishment is rather fascinating— it’s tucked away in the basement car park. After descending a flight of stairs to the ice rink from Boost Juice (LG2), I turned right and proceeded straight ahead into the car park. Continuing forward until reaching pillar ‘B23’, I turned left and spotted the eatery’s signage.
Next to the sign, there’s a pathway leading to the entrance of the eatery. If you spot this, you’re at the right location.
The cafeteria boasted a spacious interior with abundant seating and a counter positioned to the right. Upon my arrival, it was pleasantly uncrowded.
Apart from roti canai, the restaurant offers nasi campur with a variety of lauk to choose from. The dishes looked vibrant and appealing, but I decided to pass on them as I wasn’t particularly hungry that day.
What I tried at ABC One Cafeteria
I selected the Roti Banjir Special (RM3.80) from the menu among the various options available. True to its name, the dish was indeed banjir; the classic roti canai was cut into bite-sized pieces and flooded with dhal, accompanied by 2 poached eggs. Additionally, there was a dollop of sambal present in the dish.

The roti, thoroughly soaked in the aromatic dhal gravy, exhibited the characteristic moisture expected in roti banjir. This saturation heightened its flavour, providing a satisfying sensation with every bite. The sambal also added a hint of sweetness to the dish. However, I noticed a subtle uncooked dough flavour in the roti, which was somewhat displeasing.
I must admit that I was a bit let down by the eggs. One of the egg whites was undercooked, as seen in the picture— it appeared translucent. Nonetheless, the yolks were perfectly done, contributing a creamy texture to the dish. Thankfully, I didn’t find any raw taste from the uncooked white; otherwise, it would have been quite off-putting.
To finish off my meal, I opted for a Teh O Limau Ais (RM2.90). Surprisingly, it came packaged in an iconic ikat tepi style. I didn’t expect it to be served in a take away bag.
The drink offered a faint hint of lime, overshadowed by the stronger tea flavour. It fell short of achieving the perfect harmony between the robust tea flavour and the zesty citrus notes of the lime.
Final thoughts
Despite my anticipation for a delightful dining experience, it regrettably failed to live up to my expectations. While the dishes were passable, they were devoid of the extra finesse needed to truly impress and leave a lasting impression.
Though the food wasn’t particularly bad, it didn’t entice me to want to return by choice. However, if I was already in that area, I might consider giving it another shot. That being said, discovering this hidden spot still added an element of mystery, elevating the dining experience with newfound excitement.
