Jeff Correa elected chair of the World Apple and Pear Association
The World Apple and Pear Association recently elected Jeff Correa, director of international marketing at Pear Bureau Northwest, as chairman of the association, according to a news release.
“I am honored to be selected as the next chairman of the World Apple and Pear Association,” Correa said. “I look forward to working with the WAPA staff and the members to continue the global collaboration work the organization has been achieving over the past 20-plus years.”
The World Apple and Pear Association, established in 2001, represents major apple- and pear-producing countries. The association, headquartered in Brussels, holds regular meetings and carries out a range of diverse projects, market analyses and initiatives to allow members to react to changing market trends.
Kevin Moffitt, president and CEO of Pear Bureau Northwest, previously served as chairman of WAPA, from 2010–12.
“The pear bureau has been active in the World Apple and Pear Association from its inception in 2001, helping shape and develop WAPA into the go-to resource for pear forecasts and statistics as well as leading initiatives important to apple and pear producers worldwide,” said Moffitt. “I am proud and pleased to see Jeff appointed to lead the group for the next two years.”

Nelson Irrigation releases new mister for cooling crops
Nelson Irrigation, headquartered in Walla Walla, Washington, recently announced the release of its S7 Mister as a low-cost alternative to foggers for cooling apples and other crops, according to a news release.
With a 5-gallon-per-hour flow control nozzle, the S7 is part fogger and part very small droplet mister and can be used for shorter time periods than foggers. In addition, if mounted using trellis clips, a cooling system using the S7 Mister will cost about the same per acre as a cooling system using a fogger.
Nelson Irrigation plans, designs, manufactures and sells proprietary products for the irrigation equipment market. This year marks 113 years of manufacturing irrigation equipment for the Nelson family, since L.R. Nelson introduced the “clincher” hose coupler in 1911.
