🔃 Update: This offer is back. You can now earn a $50 bonus when you apply for a new card between February 4 – May 4, 2024 as well. The reloadable card is eligible once again, but the coupons should still be one-use only. The coupon will be mailed to the approved cardholders with their RedCard. You will have at least 30 days to redeem the coupon.  Must upload coupon to Target App and be fully enrolled in Target Circle™ to redeem coupon. You can see the ad here. (HT: DoC)

➡️ Original article: Target in once again offering a $40 signup bonus for the Target RedCard. The Target RedCard earns you a 5% discount on Target purchases and it comes in three different flavors. Target has a credit card, a debit card, and a reloadable debit card. The debit and the reloadable cards don’t require a credit check, and until now you could get $160 in free spend when signing up for both debit cards. But this latest offers has some important changes in the terms, which has devalued this offer. Take a look at the details below.

Update: The new coupons are one use only, so there’s no way to double dip as in the past. So this is now just $40 in free spending. Decent deal, but not as good as $80 or even $160 that you could get recently by applying for two cards. (HT: Iggy)

The Offer

Get a coupon for $40 off a qualifying purchase over $40 when you are approved for a credit or debit RedCard in-store and at Target.com between 4/30/23–5/27/23. The coupon will be mailed to approved cardholders with their RedCard and will be valid though 6/26/23.

You can find the offer in the Target ad here.

Important Changes

Previously you were able to get this bonus separately for opening a new Debit RedCard and Reloadable RedCard. But now the terms state that the Reloadable RedCard is excluded from this offer. So the bonus is basically cut down in half.

And there’s more. The coupon normally comes in the mail and you could use it once in-store and another time online for a total bonus of $80 per card. Now the terms state that you must upload coupon to Target App and be fully enrolled in Target Circle to redeem coupon. That could mean that the coupon can no longer be used twice. If they do mail the coupon, then there’s still hope that it can used twice. But I will not know for sure how this part works until I apply and receive the coupon in the mail.

Guru’s Wrap-up

Target is offering a $40 signup bonus for the Target RedCard. The terms this time around are more strict as the Reloadable RedCard is excluded and the coupon is possibly limited to just one use instead of two.

Previously you could use the coupon twice, online and in-store. I normally would place a $40+ pickup order online, pickup my order, and then spend $40+ in store. Now I’m not sure if that will be possible, but it is still at least $40 in free spend. The promo code usually comes in the same envelope as the card itself, so don’t throw those papers out.

As a reminder, you can receive this bonus again, if you have received it in the past. Even if you currently have the Target RedCar, you can close it, wait a few days, and then open it again. I have received this bonus multiple times over the last few years.
