Gautam Gambhir received blank cheque from Shah Rukh Khan for KKR comeback

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Co-owner Shah Rukh Khan was keen to get Gautam Gambhir on board. The Bollywood actor offered a blank cheque to the former India skipper to join his franchise for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. 

It was a homecoming for Gautam Gambhir as he a few months ago joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor for the IPL. It came as a big surprise because the former India cricketer was serving as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and did a terrific job for the team. 

Despite being successful for LSG, Gautam Gambhir parting ways with the franchise didn’t go well with many. But at that time not many knew what was about to come. As the news of the former India owner joining KKR came out, it took the internet by storm with many expressing their desire to see Gambhir in KKR colours. 

Gautam Gambhir was an integral part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. He has been one of the main reasons why the franchise won the title twice in the league. He became part of the team in 2011 and completely changed the dynamics of the team. 

Gautam Gambhir, who was captain of the KKR, made the franchise a dominating force, and under his leadership team won titles in 2012 and 2014. However, this around, it will be a completely different challenge for him as he will be mentoring the team and would be keen to make the same impact as he had as skipper.

Ahead of Gautam Gambhir joining KKR as a mentor, he provided a hint of that as well. The former KKR skipper posted a picture with Shah Rukh Khan, who reportedly was keen to bring back Gambhir to join the franchise again. 

Although there’s no official confirmation about the salary of Gautam Gambhir, the reports suggest Shah Rukh Khan’s blank cheque to the former skipper means he might have a big contract under his belt. He would be keen to make an impact and his presence will be a massive boost for the team. 

KKR is not a franchise, it’s an emotion for me – Gautam Gambhir 

Gautam Gambhir expressed his excitement in joining Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2024. He said that franchise is an emotion for him and he is optimistic about making Kolkata proud with the performances. Speaking to the media, he stated: 

“KKR is not a franchise, it’s an emotion for me. I hope I live up to the expectation, and I am sure we’ll try and make Kolkata proud and that’s what we are going to do.” 

Gautam Gambhir has been an incredible servant for the KKR. He is still the team’s highest run-getter 3345 runs from 122 matches at an average of 31.26. He also holds the record for the most consecutive wins by any team. Under him, KKR won 9 straight wins in 2014 and then later won the title. 

Gautam Gambhir recently also quit his political career. He stated that he wants to attention to cricket commitments. The duo of skipper Shreyas Iyer and mentor Gautam Gambhir will be one of the spotlight-grabbing in IPL. It remains to be seen how they go about their business.
