Engineering News Record Select Construction Material Prices

It’s been a while but nonetheless…Welcome to our Substack Blog that focuses on construction costs. Engineering News Record (ENR) history that can be traced back to 1874. The publication has its roots in two separate publications, Engineer & Surveyor and The Plumber and Sanitary Engineer. The first issue of Engineering News-Record was published on April 5, 1917. On January 1st, 1987, the acronym ENR was adopted as the title of the magazine. The charts that follow use data that are courtesy of ENR magazine that is published 26 times a year. Historical data was pulled from microfiche copies of the magazine obtained from the New York Public Library. The ENR 20-City Average Price of 1 1/2” Copper Water Tubing notched another new record price high in January before the most recent minor pullback but nonetheless, it is up 22.07% over the past 12-months.

After a brief pause, Ductile Iron Pipe has recorded another new high and now up 18.94% from this time last year.

The 20-City Average Price of Reinforced Concrete Pipe marked another new high in the Q3 before the recent pullback but it remains up 12.43% from this time last year.

The 20-City Average Price of 8” Polyvinyl-Chloride Water Pipe has pulled back from the November high but nonetheless it is still up 19.09% from twelve months ago.

The 20-City Average Price of 36” Corrugated Steel Pipe has continued in its parabolic rise and is up 28.88% since this time last year.

After a brief pause in Ready Mix Concrete prices in during the 3Q of last year the ENR 20-City Average Price has reignited to the upside and since then are now up 19.01% over the past twelve months.

The 20-City Average Price of Crushed Stone per/ton notched another record high in January before this months de minimis pullback. Nonetheless it is up 32.89% since this time last year.

The ENR 20-City average cost of Cutback MC800 Asphalt (per ton) has edged to another record price in this month and is up 15.22% since February of last year.

The 20-City Average Price of Portland Cement has continued to climb sharply higher and is up 27.49% over the past 12-months.

There has been a brief pause to the advance of 20-City Average Price of Masonry Sand over the past 12-months. Over that period Masonry Sand is up 39.88 %.

After a shallow pullback in the ENR 20-City Price of Concrete Sand in January prices have bumped up to a new record. Over the past twelve months Concrete Sand is up 31.59%.
