Daisy Ridley Says No Kids For Rey Skywalker

Well, Han Solo and Princess Leia had a jedi child in Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, so what about Daisy Ridley‘s Rey Skywalker?

The next Star Wars movie from filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, will see the further adventures of Rey post the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, one reported string being that the character starts up a Jedi Academy.

Catching up with Ridley at Deadline’s SXSW studio, the actress tells us, “I would say she probably doesn’t have children seeing she’s a Jedi.” We’ll, ya never know. Star Wars canon does change from time to time.

In regards to what she’s heard on the new film, which won’t come until after 2026’s Dave Filoni directed Mandalorian and Grogu Star Wars movie: “Literally what I know is what was announced last year, I’m waiting to read a script.”

“I know bits and bobs,” Ridley confessed, “I know there’s an introduction of new characters.”

“I don’t know about previous characters,” she admitted. Specifically, Ridley doesn’t know yet if the voice of Kylo Ren will be taunting Rey in her head. Meaning, it’s not clear if we’ll be getting Adam Driver reprising a blue ghost of his dark side guy. When Star Wars: Force Awakens first opened in 2015, theories abounded that Rey and Kylo were sister and brother given their intimate Jedi connection. By 2019’s Rise of Skywalker, we learn that it was just an emotional affair.

Ridley was in Austin, TX for the world premiere of her noir movie, Magpie, which she stars and produces and which was also written by her husband, Tom Bateman. The movie currently has three fresh reviews out of four on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie, which Ridley conceived, deals with a woman who’s husband is cheating on her with a glossy actress. Ridley’s character turns the tables.

Last year in an interview with AlloCiné, Ridley said about the new Star Wars pic “I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”

In November 2023, Ridley talked about how nervous she was at London’s Star Wars Celebration earlier that year when the project was announced publicly.

“I was sh**ting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that,” she told Collider. “No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous. Oh my god.”

At $936.7M stateside, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the highest grossing movie ever at the domestic box office. Altogether, the trilogy of Chapters 7-9 that Ridley starred in grossed $4.47 billion worldwide.

Deadline exclusively reported that Ridley’s movie, Young Woman and the Sea, was moving from Disney+ to a limited May 31 theatrical release.

The Deadline SXSW Studio is sponsored by Banana Republic.
