lue makes your eyes pop, doesn’t it? In 2024, everyone seems obsessed with bright blue eyeshadow. Perhaps it’s thanks to Taylor Swift’s latest tour and her blue mini dress which she enlieved with matching eyeshadow, resulting in an electrifying offering. Or maybe this new-found obsession is just a fun, playful makeup trend that has caught on. Whatever the reason, blue eye makeup is everywhere right now, and we encourage you to take it for a spin.
Check out how to slay the blue eyeshadow trend…
Sad girl cobalt blue
This dramatic, grungy blue eye look pairs darkly lined eyes with a matte cobalt blue shadow swept across the lid and blended upwards. Use a dense shader brush to spread the shadow from the lash line to the brow bone, making sure to create a smokey effect. Don’t forget to work the shadow into the crease and outer corners to add depth.
You can also extend the shadow slightly upwards and outwards, past the natural shape of your eye, for a cat eye effect. The bold matte shadow against the sharp black pencil liner and volumizing black mascara make light eyes pop and stand out. Finish with nude lipstick and light face makeup to let the eyes take center stage. This look is perfect for a night out.
It girl baby blue
For a sweeter, more playful take on the blue shadow trend, try a light pastel blue shade washed across the lids. Use a fluffy brush to apply a soft iridescent shadow across the entire lid up to the brow bone, and blend well to avoid harsh lines.
Then, take a slightly darker matte blue and concentrate it on defining the crease. Blend it upwards towards the brow bone into the pastel shadow. For more impact, try doing a tiny winged tip with liquid liner, finishing with two to three coats of volumizing black mascara on the top and bottom lashes. Pair it with a clear or pinky nude glossy lip and rosy cheeks. This blue eyeshadow trend is apt for brunch or a daytime date.
Mixing blue shades
Why stick to just one blue when you can wear them all? Start by patting on a light shimmery silver-blue across the inner third of the lid with your ring finger or a flat brush. Layer on a brighter teal blue shadow like MAC’s Steamy on the center third of the lid, overlapping the edges. Then use a small crease brush to sweep a deeper matte navy blue shadow through the outer third of the crease and just slightly above, extending it into a subtle cat eye. Take your time blending the edges of the three shades so they transition seamlessly from one color to the next. The mix of cool and warm blues makes the eyes glow. Finish with black mascara to make your lashes more prominent.
Goth blue eyes
Channel your inner goth with this dark, dramatic blue-eye look. Use a flat brush to apply a matte navy blue shadow across the entire lid up to the crease, concentrating the pigment more on the inner and outer corners. Work the shadow into the lash line to create depth.
Another way to achieve the blue eyeshadow trend is to take a pencil brush with a black shadow or liner and run it tightly along the upper lash lines, smoking it out with small circular motions. Finish by coating the top lashes with two thick coats of jet-black mascara, leaving the lower lashes bare. The bold matte navy lid against the smudgy black lash lines and feathery lashes creates mystery. Keep the rest of the face bare for maximum drama.
