BCCI Eyes Salary Bump for Players Completing Full Year’s Test Series

[ad_1]

The ongoing Test series between India and England is setting the thrill of Test cricket to another level. After losing the first Test match in Hyderabad, Team India registered three consecutive wins in the last three Test matches. After those thrilling wins, BCCI is likely to take a big step. They might increase the match fees for the Test players.

India’s Magnificent Test wins:

In 2024, the biggest attraction of the Test format was the five-match Test series against England. Since the beginning of the Test series, fans are enjoying the thrill of the Test series. India lost the first Test match in Hyderabad by 28 runs. Virat Kohli opted out of the whole Test series. KL Rahul was ruled from the rest three Test matches. Young players pushed the team close to winning.

In the Rajkot Test match, India registered their biggest Test win of 434 runs. In that match, youngster Yashasvi scored his second Test double-hundred. That was an iconic moment. Ashwin completed his 500 Test wickets. Even in the fourth Test match, Team India played the team game and won the Test match. With that win, they already won the series.

BCCI’s Big Step:

In a strategic move to underline the paramount importance of Test cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up to enhance the match fees for players participating in the revered longest format of the game. Recent reports from the Indian Express suggest that the decision stems from concerns about players deviating from directives to engage in domestic cricket, choosing instead to independently prepare for the high-octane Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to insiders, the BCCI is set to overhaul the salary structure for Team India players, with a particular emphasis on augmenting the compensation for those gracing the Test arena. Notably, a groundbreaking proposal on the table includes the introduction of an additional bonus for players who showcase unwavering commitment by featuring in every Test series throughout the cricketing calendar year.

Sources reveal that the proposed changes are slated to be implemented post the culmination of the ongoing IPL season, injecting fresh enthusiasm into the longer format of the game. As it stands, the BCCI presently allocates a sum of 15 lakh INR as match fees for each Test encounter, while ODIs and T20 internationals command six lakh INR and three lakh INR, respectively. This innovative move by the BCCI not only seeks to bolster the financial incentives for Test players but also aims to rekindle the fervor and dedication towards the traditional and storied format of the sport.
