Lets be honest, I’m way behind. I sit here writing an April update at the end of May…….. The market is doing its thing and banks continue to add cash for provision losses.
From a business perspective we are extremely busy and are basically booked up for the entire year. But one thing I can notice and hear from others is how quiet the phone is.. Things are slowing down. Pool companies I have talked to don’t have much work at the moment at all.
I think people are feeling the pinch. We are, and yet we are very fortunate to be where we are financially. I feel like at the end of every week there’s another $1,000 balance on our credit card. Time will tell where things go but with Canada’s inflation rate rising once again in April, I think we are in this for the long haul.
Governments continue to be feeding inflation in my opinion with higher taxes, and insane printing presses but hey that’s another discussion… People voted for this Govt who even said monetary policy wasn’t a concern this term……
Life
Things have been really busy. Too busy. Work is always insane during the spring but we started a huge job – 100k plus. You wanna finish that asap so you can move on to other jobs. Kids sports have really picked up lately too – 3 days a week just for soccer. I play ball hockey once a week and our team seemed to have picked the short straw playing almost every game the last 2 months at 6pm… arg!
Its playoffs now but after that its time to take a break from hockey for the summer. Bring on the camping.
Our dog had surgery to get spayed and her duclaws removed. That has been a nightmare, within 3 days one paw split right open to the bone and they stapled her. That didn’t heal right either and they ended up doing surgery on her again. The annoying thing is they said this vet is better at these surgery’s and then when he did the surgery. He called to say he shaved off more bone as it should of been done originally so it can heal properly…
Our dog now has 1 paw that is flush and 1 with a big bump on it. 3 weeks of her in the cone, but shes finally without it.. glad that’s over with. (lucky for us the vet did cover the cost of the 2nd surgery)

If your interested check out our Previous Dividend Income Reports.
Our Drips (Dividend Reinvestment Program) added a very nice $19.46 in future dividends. Gotta get that drip!

Solar Panel Income
In March (We always get paid a month later) our solar panel system generated 443 kWh. Since we bring in a fixed rate of 28.8 cents per kilowatt hour, Hydro One deposited $127.63 into our chequing account this month.
Last March the system generated $189.79 so we are down by quite a bit. We got hammered in snow mid March so its kind of to be expected.

April Stock Purchases
April ended up being an expensive month for us as we needed to get new tires for the suv – $1,300 and we got our dog spayed/ duclaws removed – another $1,300
So we ended up only making one purchase
10 Shares of Texas Instruments – I continue to like what this company is doing and its great growth. While some people complain that their dividend growth has dropped in recent years, I think they fail to recognize how big of projects they are currently making for the future. Everything will be using more chips, so I think this is a good space to be.
We bought them at 161 and change. These 10 shares will add 49.60 usd in forward income.
Total added forward dividend income – $319.27
Bitcoin
Bitcoin has basically went sideways lately, but we continue to put 20 bucks a week into it.
decided to go with shakepay because it is regulated in Canada and you shake the phone daily to get some free sats (bitcoin). They recently changed the way shaking sats is done. You get a certain amount per day now
A 100 dollar deposit gets you 10 bucks and 10 for the referrer. Feel free to use my affiliate here if your interested in trying out the crypto space. Or if your a fan of the site and wanna toss me some btc my Shaketag is @hutz8
I appreciate the support.

Etf Monthly Minimum Purchase of $250
- This month we added 0 more units of xaw etf.
- Questrade* is great because it offers free etf trades and cheaper stock trading options than most Canadian brokers. $250.00 a month would kill us if we needed to pay high trading fees.
- * Note the questrade link is a affiliate link and at no additional cost to you, I would get a little payment if you were to sign up. You could get $50 in free trades by using my affiliate link though.
We didn’t add this month as put the dollars into texas instruments.
April 2023 Passive Income Conclusion
While things are down year over year on the income front. It seems like the sell off in November to pay off the heloc was a good idea, almost all stocks we sold are cheaper now vs then. Banks are down, reits are down and telus is down.. Qsr on the other hand has been on a tear! Ahhh well what can you do…
Hope your all are enjoying this beautfil weather, cheers!
