A Weekend At Okemo Mountain
[ad_1]
My family and I love to ski. Jason is a big snowboarder, and while I only skied a few times growing up, I made sure to introduce my kids to the joys of the slopes, so they wouldn’t have to learn in their 20’s/30’s like I did. Now, when most people think of skiing, they think of Colorado, but as a lifelong New Yorker, I’m here to tell you that Vermont should be on your list of ski destinations. Most notably, Okemo Mountain Resort is a spot that should definitely be on your radar.
With exclusive epic pass holder savings, it’s the perfect spot to travel to with eligible passes for epic mountain rewards at a great ski resort for the experience of a lifetime. Okemo Resort is the perfect place with slope side lodging, especially for Easter weekend. It’s time sensitive as ski season wraps up, but save this for the next winter season if you can’t make it out there for winter activities and snow tubing. The ski areas are all amazing and great for young children to pick up skiing. With the best lodging, great outdoor enthusiasts and exceptional guest service, spring skiing is some of the best here on the main mountain.
Where to Stay
Located northwest of Ludlow on Okemo Mountain, this resort features 632 acres of skiable terrain with a uniform mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced difficulties and 121 trails. The resort is suitable for downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as snowboarding. In addition to trails, the resort boasts a skate park-influenced terrain park for skiing and snowboarding. With a halfpipe for aerial fun, Gordon’s Garden, a park with small to medium features for intermediate skiers, and more. You’ll even find a slopestyle-influenced competition course and training ground for advanced skiers called The Blackout!
Skiing
We love this resort, and we recently took yet another trip there with our three kids to enjoy the powder as a family. There are lots of accommodations to choose from, but we ended up staying at Jackson Gore Village. This beautiful spot offers studios, suites, one and two-bedroom apartments, quadruple rooms for groups, and more. It’s a family-friendly inn with inviting interiors that combine clean, modern lines with welcoming tones and wood accents. It really does feel like a home away from home, which we love. Let me tell you, nothing makes a stay more enjoyable than feeling at home in your accommodations. Almost as soon as we arrived, we were on the slopes. With powder as good as what you find at Okemo, you don’t want to waste time! The kids are old enough and experienced enough these days. With that, we bypassed the bunny course and headed right into the low-difficulty areas. We had so much fun! The downhill has the perfect slope for beginner to intermediate skiers, and the kids enjoyed zipping down as quickly as possible. I have to say, I’m not as advanced as my kids, so I was happy to be there! We hit a variety of trails, taking in the beautiful views and enjoying the wind in our faces.
Epic Pass
If you have access to this amazing resort whenever you like, I highly recommend the Epic Pass. This season-long pass gives you unlimited access to everything the resort has to offer. You’ll have access to Vail, Breck, Park City, Whistler, Blackcomb, and more. You’ll also enjoy limited access to Mount Snow’s partner resorts in North America, Europe, and Japan. In addition, you’ll get 20% off of food, lodging, group lessons, and rentals – and that’s just part of the savings. You’ll even get discounted tickets for you, friends, and family! A season pass for any ski area is ideal and a great way to save money and time. Mount Snow Vermont rentals can be rented at discounted prices with Epic Pass. Plan out your day to have the best day! Even intermediate skiers can take lessons and catch up to expert skiers.
Where To Dine
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were as impressive as the slopes. Options range from Coffee Exchange, offering coffee and fresh pastries, Roundhouse Cafe with delicious pizzas and other Americana favorites, 43 North with its elevated atmosphere and dining options, Sugar House Cafe, offering an eclectic menu ranging from hot cocoa to authentic ramen bowls, and much more. The kids gravitated toward pizza, burgers, and classic kid-friendly options. My husband and I enjoyed them as well, but we also managed to sneak in a nice couple’s dinner at 43 North.
If you’re looking for some of the best skiing in the northeast, then Okemo Mountain Resort should be on your radar. With its nice mix of difficulties, terrains, and parks, this resort offers some of the best skiing you’ll find anywhere in the area or in the country, for that matter. It’s one of our go-to ski destinations, and after one visit, it will be a go-to for you, as well.
