How to Style Trousers
[ad_1]
Long gone are the days when trousers were reserved for office wear only. While this particular style of pants was never really off-trend, it’s safe to say that they have become increasingly popular in recent months.
I’ve been gravitating toward trousers for many different occasions, and throughout all seasons, which has offered my wardrobe a fun little switch up from a basic pair of jeans. Trousers look so chic to wear to dinner, happy hours, special events, or coffee meet ups. And yes, they still are the ideal bottom choice for work-wear. Not to mention, they are insanely comfortable.
Given that they really go with so many different things, it can almost make it harder to know how to style trousers. If you’re looking for outfit inspo or you’re simply deciding if trousers would be a good addition to your closet, this post will help!
Here, I’m sharing what to wear with trousers, along with a handful of trouser outfit ideas I personally styled.

Watch Here: What to Wear With Trousers
Trousers With a Belt
If you want to break up the space between your pants and your top, grab a belt! I love the way a belt offers more dimension and interest to an outfit, and it’s also just a practical accessory to incorporate.
When styling trousers for warmer weather, try a puff sleeve or even an off-the-shoulder top, which are both feminine and cute. Also, don’t be afraid to wear sandals with trousers—as long as the pair you have aren’t too long, you can totally get away with wearing flats.
Trousers With a Sweater Tee
I don’t know about you but I’ve been seeing sweater tees everywhere lately, and I have to say that I’m a fan. This top option is perfect for transitional weather, and it just so happens to look adorable with a pair of trousers. I’m loving this soft striped option as well as this cardigan tank (which is ideal for summer!)
Add a belt and finish off with some sleek ballet flats. This outfit would work for so many outings, whether you’re running errands or grabbing lunch with a friend.
Trousers With a Strapless Top
Looking for a summer trouser outfit idea? Pair your pants with a strapless top. Not only is this look very chic, but it’s also ideal to wear from day to night. You could slip into sandals during the day, then swap the shoes out for heels at night.
The exact top I’m wearing in the photo is unfortunately sold out, but I linked many similar options below—and I love that they all would work with jeans or shorts as well!
Trousers With a Tank
Sometimes a simple outfit makes the biggest impact, as I prove in the photo below. For an easy, everyday trouser look, opt for a tank on top, a matching belt, and some basic sandals. This outfit gives off a ready-for-anything vibe and can be mixed and matched with other pieces in your wardrobe.
If you’re hoping to go with a more casual vibe, reach for linen trousers (which have less of a professional feel.) You could also add a blazer on top for a more “styled” feel and for an extra layer.
Trousers With All White
There’s something about an all-white outfit that I have always loved—it’s bright, it’s summery, and I just totally dig the monochromatic look. This scalloped top is similar to the one I have on in the photo below and it pairs perfectly with these white linen-blend pants.
For this particular look, I went with heels (I’m obsessed with this pair), but again, anything goes! Oh, and if you want to add a pop of color, try doing that with a fun handbag.
Trousers With a Blazer
This might be last on my list, but I don’t think I could love this outfit combo any more than I already do. A blazer styled with trousers and white sneakers just makes the dreamiest trio.
It’s a realistic outfit to put together without requiring you to buy many pieces (you likely have most of these things in your closet.) Plus, it’s soooo comfortable to wear all day and night—a major win in my book.
The sneakers give it a more laid-back feel while the blazer and tight tank offer a polished and elevated vibe. The mix in this outfit is just too good to pass up, and I don’t see this as being a look that ever goes out of style.
