Jason Day Takes Equity Stake in Budding Golf Shoe Company

You know that feeling of sitting on a secret, not being able to tell a soul?

That’s how I felt earlier this month when Mike Forsey and Mike Glancy of PAYNTR Golf let me in on a little secret. They had just partnered with Jason Day. I got off that call immediately excited for what this meant for the budding golf brand, one that we’ve seen blossom over the past few years.

If you’re unfamiliar with PAYNTR Golf, here’s a refresher. They exploded onto the scene after taking the top spot in our 2022 golf shoe testing. The Portland, Ore., golf performance brand followed that with a stellar performance in 2023 as well.

The one thing PAYNTR has been missing? The big name. Sure, a stable that consists of Mike Weir and long drive giant Martin Borgmeier is nice. But in order to reach the masses, PAYNTR needed someone who really moves the needle.

Enter Jason Day.

Fresh off the heels of signing with Malbon, it was apparent Day was in need of a footwear partner. Malbon, of course, hasn’t yet branched into that space. And, coming off a long history with NIKE, Day wasn’t about to settle for anything less than stellar.

“Over the last several years, PAYNTR Golf and their footwear have made a name for themselves amongst many professional golfers on TOUR,” said Day. “When the opportunity to join this team, and their mission to give golfers a true on-course performance advantage, was proposed, it fit perfectly. Their golf footwear expertise and attention to detail is unmatched. But for me, having the unique opportunity to work closely as an owner on a collaborative collection from concept to reveal was key to the full partnership coming together.”

If Day’s faith in PAYNTR wasn’t abundantly clear, the former World No. 1 took on an equity stake in the company, too. So, it’s personal, not just professional.

The partnership turns a new page for PAYNTR Golf, a brand that up to this moment has been totally focused on making performance footwear. While that core won’t change, the partnership with Day opens the way for lifestyle-centric stuff, more akin to Day’s signature style.

Over the next six months, the tandem will work hand in hand on what’s being dubbed the X1 Proto. This shoe will be powered by PAYNTR’s proprietary propulsion plate (that’s a mouthful) but stay true to Day’s classic style and fashion.

“We are thrilled to partner with Jason on this exciting venture,” said Mike Forsey, Co-founder and President of PAYNTR Golf. “His unparalleled expertise and passion for the game will continue to be invaluable in creating a truly innovative golf footwear collection with a new tech classic style to elevate the on-course experience of golfers around the world.”

For Day, the opportunity is one he relishes. It’s not very often you have the chance to work so closely with a brand with the performance prowess of PAYNTR Golf.

“I believe in our brand’s vision and am honored to be a part of elevating the PAYNTR Golf
product offering. We are pushing boundaries and creating footwear that will exceed the expectations of golfers and athletes worldwide. I believe golfers should not have to choose between comfort, performance and style. With PAYNTR Golf footwear you can have all three.”

Comfort, performance and style? Sounds like a recipe to take on the masses. If this is any indication of what’s to come for PAYNTR Golf, there’s plenty to be excited about.

It looks like PAYNTR has their man.
