32 Bible Verses About Adventure

[ad_1]

Use these Bible verses about adventure to be inspired to take the steps of faith God is leading you toward in trust as He leads you out of your comfort zone.

Read these Bible verses about adventure in the Christian life to see how God’s Word instructs us to step out of our comfort zones, trust in God’s guidance and protection, and remember how biblical role models walked by faith.

The Christian life is anything but boring! God calls us to a life of faith and adventure as He continually takes us to new heights along our journey with Him. God often calls us into the unknown as we seek new experiences, are willing to take risks, and fully embrace our abundant life as we follow where He leads.

I grew up listening to Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman and in his song “The Great Adventure” he states “Come on get ready for the ride of your life, Gonna leave long-faced religion, In a cloud of dust behind, And discover all the new horizons, Just waiting to be explored, This is what we were created for.”

Christianity is so much more than following a bunch of rules trying to be good or attending church in wooden pews listening to ancient hymn lyrics that make no sense.

God is calling us to an exciting, full life in which He gives us passions and gifts beyond our wildest dreams, leading us through mountains and valleys as we discover the person and the life we were created for. God calls us to place our full trust in Him, often asking us to step outside our comfort zones as we try to be obedient to walk by faith.

Although there are times we struggle with fears and doubts, God is faithful every time and provides everything we need as long as we keep our eyes fixed on Him. As we mature in our faiths and grow in our relationship with Him, we also learn to trust in Him with greater ease and rely on His strength and provision.

Another way that has been a huge inspiration to me in my faith journey is hearing other people testify to the ways that God was faithful to them as they clung to Him in faith.

The Bible gives us countless examples of men and women who encountered incredible adventures as they walked with God, from Moses leading his people across the Red Sea to Daniel as he was thrown into the lions’ den, to Rahab who risked her life to hide Israelite spies on her roof. Hebrews 11 is an excellent place to start to learn about the faithful acts of heroes in the Bible.

There are also more modern missionaries, preachers, and just ordinary people through whom miraculous acts of God were accomplished because of simple acts of faith and the desire to live a life wholly surrendered to God. Nate Saint, Jim and Elizabeth Elliot, Corrie Ten Boom, C.S. Spurgeon, Amy Carmichael, and Joni Erickson Tada are just a few of the people whose stories have greatly encouraged my faith journey.

Equally as important are the people that God has brought into your life who have spoken life, courage, strength, faith, wisdom, truth, and encouragement into your life. Remember the times that you have been supported and inspired to new heights by a family member, friend, spiritual mentor, pastor, or even a stranger.

As we recall how God used others to demonstrate His faithfulness in our lives, this will strengthen us to boldly take each new step with Him along our adventure.

Embark upon the great adventures God is calling you to encounter in your life. Whether you are faced with launching a new career, starting a family, moving to a new city, taking a financial risk, or serving God in a brand new way, know that God has your best interests in mind and will provide you with every spiritual, emotional, and physical resource you need to accomplish His plans for your life.

Take a risk, step out in faith, and embrace the adventurous life God is calling you to enjoy

Bible Verses With Examples Of People Who Walked By Faith & Not By Sight

27. Genesis 6:9-22 – Noah Did Everything the Lord Commanded When He Built a Gigantic Ark, Filled It With Animals and Plants, and Entered It With His Family

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.” Noah did everything just as God commanded him. – Genesis 6:9-22

The entire story of Noah can be found in Genesis 6-10. This was a time in which there was widespread wickedness and evil in human beings on the earth, but Noah walked faithfully with God and found favor in the eyes of God. God goes to know and tells him that He is going to destroy all people, but that he is to make an enormous wooden ark because God is going to send floodwaters to destroy all life on earth.

Can you imagine what Noah might have been thinking as he received these instructions from God? He lived a simple life in the middle of a desert with his wife and sons and he was being hand-picked to build a colossal boat big enough to fit two of every animal, bird, and living creature.

But whatever thoughts or doubts might have passed through Noah’s mind, he listened to God and followed every instruction to the letter in order to fulfill all God had said.

Can you imagine the adventure that Noah embarked on as he went about carrying out God’s calling: searching for enough cypress wood to build the ark, convincing his family he was not out of his mind, then searching high and low for all the plants and animals to load upon the ark, speaking with neighbors about what he was doing, and then finally loading his whole family upon the ark as they waited for the rain to begin.

And yet Noah was still faithful and God was faithful to honor the covenant He made with Noah.

No matter how crazy or bold or seemingly impossible the things are that God speaks to your heart and the dreams He places within your spirit, I pray that you will remember that God has magnificent things in mind for your life and as you step forward in faith, trusting in Him, God will honor your desire to fulfill His Will for your life.

It doesn’t matter what others say or if your vision makes practical sense, God is always faithful and will bring you great joy as you embark on the adventure God is placing before you.

28. Exodus 3:1-14; 4:10-12 – God Calls to Moses From a Burning Bush to Lead Israelites Out of Egypt and Into the Promised Land

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”

The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” – Exodus 3:1-14; 4:10-12

The saga of Moses’ life is told in Exodus 2-14 and includes many adventures that Moses would encounter from his birth after which he was placed in a basket along the Nile River to God raising him up to be the leader that would deliver God’s people from slavery in Egypt, cross the Red Sea, and enter the Promised Land as God established His chosen people.

I encourage you to read the whole story sometime, but I want to focus on the adventure at the beginning of Moses’ life when God first called him to rescue the Israelites from Egypt.

Moses was going about his everyday duties as a shepherd tending the sheep of his father-in-law when all of a sudden a bush was ablaze but was not burning up. Out of sheer curiosity, Moses went to see what was going on. It was at this moment that God appeared to Moses and began to reveal that He wanted Moses to go to Pharaoh to rescue the Israelites.

Moses first responded in fear and then revealed his fears and doubts about being worthy and qualified to carry out the mighty plans God was sharing with him. God assures Moses that He will be with him, implying that this truth is more than sufficient to overcome any fear, doubt, or bit of low self-confidence that Moses has.

Even after revealing His name as “I AM WHO I AM,” Moses still is not convinced. When Moses thinks about being God’s spokesman to Pharaoh as well as to the Israelites, he admits that he is not eloquent and is slow of speech and begs God to send someone else. God’s response? Trust in Me. God reminds Moses that He created him, knows his weaknesses, and will help him and teach him what to say.

First of all, I love that Moses was just going about the somewhat mundane duties of his life when God chose to appear to him. Moses was not doing anything spectacular for God at that moment; he was just being faithful in the little duties that comprised his life.

Secondly, even though he was face to face with the most holy God of the universe, Moses was willing to admit his fears, doubts, and inadequacies to God. God did not strike Moses down for having these questions, but lovingly reminded him that He was in control and would be with him and provide everything he needed.

When you face insecurities and worries, remember God is with you, He is for you, and He is providing absolutely everything you need along this adventure with Him. Recall that Moses would go on to trust in God and walk by faith as ten plagues were brought upon Egypt, the people escaped by literally crossing through the Red Sea along dry land, and the Israelites entered the Promised Land as God’s chosen people. What a story!

29. 1 Samuel 17:45-50 – David Kills Goliath With Confidence in the Lord

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. – 1 Samuel 17:45-50

David definitely lived adventurously as he offered to go and fight the Philistine Goliath who was defiant against the Lord. As a young teenager, David was caring for his older brothers when he heard Goliath shouting defiance against God and threats against the Israelites.

His response was zeal for the reputation of the Lord when he questioned how anyone could disgrace Israel or defy the armies of the living God.

David responded as a willing warrior not because he was overly confident in his own strength and power, but because he so desperately wanted God’s name to be honored and for no one to defy the greatness of his beloved God.

While all the other Israelite soldiers cowered in fear, David offered to serve King Saul by going to fight Goliath the giant.

Rejecting the heavy armor that typically clad warriors in battle, David was confident that the Lord Almighty would protect and defend him. Using the simple sling he used to defend his sheep as a shepherd boy, he slung a small stone and killed Goliath. David’s sole confidence was in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel.

David wholeheartedly believed that God would deliver Goliath into his hands and by faith he offered his life as a small, unimpressive teenager to conquer the fearsome giants in the land. Remember that you don’t have to be the strongest, smartest, wealthiest, most successful person to conquer the obstacles in your path.

As you step forward in faith to achieve God’s purposes in your adventure, He will equip you with that which he places in your hand and the power of God will conquer your enemies and make you victorious in Christ. You are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus, and He will be with you every step of the way.

Be willing to step out of your comfort zone with confidence that God will be honored and glorified as you trust in Him.

30. Daniel 6:13-23 – Daniel Thrown Into the Lions Den Due to His Devotion to God

Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.” When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him. Then the men went as a group to King Darius and said to him, “Remember, Your Majesty, that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.”

So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!” A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed. Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep. At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”

Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God. – Daniel 6:13-23

Daniel’s story of adventure is unique among many of the others because he was not seeking a bold adventure or specifically spoken to by the audible voice of God, but his decision to live by faith is still noteworthy.

Daniel was living in a foreign land, surrounded by a culture that worshiped foreign Gods, but he was still determined to live in a way that honored and pleased the Lord God.

He was living each day by seeking God through prayer three times a day. He used his God-given gifts like interpreting dreams to serve the king and those around him, and he lived with such devotion and love for God that faith just overflowed from his life.

It was by living out his passion to keep God first that caused him to come face to face with his adventure.

The king was tricked into enacting a law that forced him to throw Daniel into the den of lions due to his public prayers. Daniel did not protest or try to change the king’s mind but by faith trusted that his life was in the hands of God.

He believed that God would protect him and as a result, the whole kingdom saw that an angel of God shut the mouth of the lions and preserved Daniel’s life.

Sometimes we are not necessarily seeking to accomplish some big and mighty task for God, but by circumstances out of our control, a situation is placed in our lap that forces us to choose whether we will stand strong in faith or give in to the pattern of the world. God is good and even when it feels like you will not survive the night, remember that God is fighting your battles for you and He will supernaturally protect and defend you.

Though weeping may last the night, joy comes in the morning. Do not just look at the threats that surround you, but walk by faith and know the Almighty Lord of all is with you and will not leave your side. Daniel survived the lions’ den and so can you!

31. Matthew 4:18-22 – Jesus Calls His First Disciples

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him. – Matthew 4:18-22

Can you imagine what it would have been like to walk alongside Jesus as one of the first twelve disciples? I don’t think they had any clue about all the adventures they would encounter as followers of Jesus, but we see here that Peter, Andrew, James, and John all immediately left everything they knew– families, friends, livelihoods, and homes – to heed Jesus’ call to follow Him.

The disciples witnessed miraculous healings, tried to respond when Jesus condemned the most esteemed religious leaders, stepped forward as Jesus instructed them to feed thousands with a few fish and loaves of bread, experienced Jesus command the raging wind and waves to obey, were commanded to go out two by two to preach about the kingdom, and then watched in horror as their leader and best friend was crucified on a cross.

And can you imagine the wonder as they experienced their resurrected Lord reappear to them in glory.

God calls each of us to willingly abandon everything that is known and familiar about our lives to follow Him wherever He leads. This is the great adventure of a life of faith that we embark upon as we declare Jesus to be the Lord of our lives.

This does not mean you have to leave your kids to become a missionary in Africa, but He does ask that we surrender control of our lives to Him and be willing to step out in faith beyond our comfort zones to seek His will for our lives in everything we do.

The disciples were still human– they often were confused by Jesus’ words, they had fears and doubts about what Jesus was doing, and they often felt ill-equipped to carry out Jesus’ commands. However, they continued to follow Him and pursue His call and journey with Jesus as their beloved leader.

Jesus asks the same of us, but there is nothing more fulfilling and rewarding than following Jesus as our fearless leader.

32. 2 Corinthians 6:4-10 – Paul Speaks of Hardships and Victories

Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything. – 2 Corinthians 6:4-10

In the New Testament, Paul is the first person that comes to mind when I think of living an adventurous life for the sake of Jesus. Paul sometimes seems like a larger than life character to me. He expressed such bold statements of faith in the midst of hardships that would have easily devastated or destroyed most men.

Let us first try to encapsulate some of Paul’s adventures, and then perhaps we can discern what God may be teaching us about how to walk by faith and not by sight.

After his conversion to Christianity, Paul was called to preach the Gospel of Christ to Gentiles through Asia Minor. Along the way, he was shipwrecked, imprisoned, beaten, nearly starved to death, and endured many hardships.

But he also experienced divine interventions to free him from jail, saw the power of God do earth-shattering miracles, and overflowed with joy and thanksgiving as God’s grace provided for him. Above all, God used Paul to bring thousands of lives to a saving relationship with Christ.

I am not trying to imply that you have to endure beatings and see 500,000 people converted to fulfill God’s dreams for your life. However, we do know that in this life we will have trouble, but Christ has overcome the world.

I love how Paul embodies the reality that we can be sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; we can have nothing, and yet possess everything.

The real source of Paul’s strength and perseverance as encountered adventures in his life was the rich, intimate relationship that he had with God. He depended fully on Christ to work through him, and the power of the Spirit moved mightily through a life surrendered to God.

May we truly delight in the Lord each day, trusting that He will then grant the holy desires He places in our heart. Let us worship the Lord as He accomplishes great and unimaginable things through our faith-filled lives.
