Whenever we think of the words forgiveness and reconciliation, we naturally associate it with an event, relationship, or person that we have a conflict with, were hurt by, or have a strained relationship with. 

Forgiveness and reconciliation can be a hard path to walk on, but we have the best example in God, who forgave first, and reconciled us to Himself.

26 Bible Verses about Forgiveness and Reconciliation

1. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 – God Reconciled Us to Himself Through Christ 

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin[b] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2. Ephesians 4:32 – Forgive Each Other As God Forgave You

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

3. Romans 5:10-11 – We Who Were Enemies Were Reconciled to God

For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
