REVIEW: General Mills Lucky Charms Oatmeal

[ad_1]

Who knew that putting cereal in cereal is all it would take to get me to eat more cereal?!

General Mills Instant Oatmeals

General Mills is trying their hand at the other cereal, introducing five instant oatmeals inspired by some of their classic cereals. The flavors are:

  • Lucky Charms Oatmeal
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch Oatmeal
  • Trix Oatmeal
  • Cocoa Puffs Oatmeal
  • Cookie Crisp Oatmeal

If there was even a debate about which cereal was better (hot or cold), that debate is officially over. When you take one and put it in the other to make the second better, you’ve officially declared which one rules and which one needs help. Just wave the white flag, game over.

They’re gunning for straight up domination of the cereal game by making the first hot cereal I actually want to eat.

This review is part of a series. Today’s General Mills instant oatmeal is:

General Mills Lucky Charms Oatmeal

General Mills Lucky Charms Oatmeal

General Mills Lucky Charms Oatmeal is vanilla flavored oatmeal with Lucky Charms Marshmallows for topping.

There’s something very fun and reckless about encouraging people to put marshmallows in their oatmeal, and I’m here to get reckless.

Inside the box of Lucky Charms Oatmeal, you’ll find separate packets of the vanilla oatmeal and separate packets of marshmallow. This is great because it prevents you from making a big, melty mess.

You can also swirl it all together to make a big, melty mess.

General Mills Instant Oatmeals

Once upon a time, many moons ago when I was just a young, 31-year old food blogger, I tried the Lucky Charms Oatmeal from Canada and found it basically just tasted like plain oats. Four years later, I’m happy to say that I think they improved the recipe for the U.S. launch. I find the oatmeal has a more pronounced vanilla flavor and a sweeter profile that makes it play better as a Lucky Charms spin-off. Nothing Earth-shattering, but a very tolerable oatmeal.

The marshmallows still melt ferociously from the heat, so it’s best to enjoy them quickly if you want to savor some crunch.

Overall, this is still a dumb idea and I love it.

Burning Questions:

  1. If this is still oatmeal, I’m out. I understand.
  2. Is it better than Quaker? IT HAS MARSHMALLOWS.
  3. Is it magically delicious? No, it’s oatmeal.
