Lightning Bowling Impresses Brett Lee
In a league where speed thrills, Mayank Yadav, the 21-year-old tearaway pacer from India, has captured the attention of cricket fans and experts alike with his blistering pace in the IPL 2024. Yadav’s fiery spell for the Lucknow Super Giants against Punjab Kings not only earned him the Player of the Match award but also drew high praise from the legendary Brett Lee.
Yadav’s moment of glory came when he bowled the fastest ball of the season, clocking a scorching 155.8 kilometers per hour. This feat not only marked the fifth-fastest delivery in IPL history but also stood as the second-fastest by an Indian, trailing only behind Umran Malik.

Brett Lee, known for his own express pace during his playing days, took to social media to laud Yadav’s performance, declaring, “India has just found its fastest bowler. Mayank Yadav, Raw pace. Very impressive.”
Yadav’s impact was immediate as he made his IPL debut against Punjab Kings, finishing with impressive figures of 3/27. His raw pace and accuracy troubled the opposition batsmen, with 18 of his 24 deliveries clocking over 145 kilometers per hour. Yadav’s remarkable speed and control helped LSG secure a crucial victory, with his intimidating bowling style drawing comparisons to some of the fastest bowlers in the world.
Reflecting on his journey, Yadav expressed gratitude for the opportunity to debut at a young age, overcoming setbacks due to injuries. He credited his success to his plan of bowling at the stumps and using his pace to unsettle the batsmen. Yadav’s performance not only showcased his talent but also highlighted the depth of talent in Indian cricket.
“I’ve always heard from others there’s nervousness in debuts but that goes away after the first ball. Plan was to not be under too much pressure and to bowl at the stumps and use the pace as much as possible. There was the thought to mix up the pace initially but the wicket helped and the skipper told me to bowl gas. The debut wicket was the favourite. Coming off the injury last season was tough, I’d set my goal to debut at a young age but injuries were a setback,” he said.
As Yadav continues to make waves in the IPL, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await his next spell, hoping to witness more lightning-fast deliveries and memorable performances from this emerging pace sensation.
