Introducing Oncio: An integrative oncology app accessible to everyone – Blog

As part of our workshop for World Cancer Day we are partnering with Oncio, the first free app available to anyone affected by cancer that empowers people to put practical integrative oncology tools and strategies into action.. The Oncio CIC (Community Interest Company) was co-founded by Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel, an integrative medicine physician with lived experience of breast cancer, and Dr Penny Kechagioglou, consultant clinical oncologist. The main aim of Oncio CIC is to provide high quality app-based resources for people with cancer and healthcare professionals and supporting best clinical practice and research in integrative oncology (IO).

Integrative oncology (IO) is a patient-centred, evidence-informed field of cancer care that utilises nutrition, lifestyle, psycho-emotional wellbeing and complementary medicine interventions alongside conventional cancer treatments to support better quality of life, improve resilience, minimise the side effects of treatment and improve outcomes.

The app is divided into 3 main sections:

Guided support programs with daily actions aimed at supporting lifestyle changes and creating a broad toolkit for self-management, from nutrition and movement to psycho-emotional wellbeing and beyond.

See your progress through the current chosen program, connect your health apps and devices to Oncio and complete self-evaluation scores to participate in app evaluation and development.

Explore

Engage with a diverse range of content – general information hub, symptom relief hub with information on non-pharmacological interventions, free charity group events and nutritious and delicious recipes.

The Oncio app has been created by the Oncio CIC (Community Interest Company), co-founded by Dr Nina Fuller-Shavel and Dr Penny Kechagioglou with the main aim of providing high quality digital health resources for people with cancer and healthcare professionals and supporting best clinical practice and research in integrative oncology.

This year’s World Cancer Day’s theme, “Close the Care Gap”, is all about raising our voices so that everyone has access to quality health services when, where and how they need them.
