Diogo Dalot has claimed that as soon as Alejandro Garnacho started training with the senior squad, his talent was clear for all to see.
The 19 year old has enjoyed a meteoric rise for the Red Devils in just under two years.
In May 2022, Garnacho scored a brace at Old Trafford as Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 to win the Youth Cup.
Fast Forward two years, and the winger has just equalled a Premier League record held by Michael Owen with most two-plus goal games in a season for a teenager and is one of, if not the first team on the United team sheet right now.
The Argentine was given his shot last season under Erik ten Hag and announced himself in style with two goals in November 2022, one a spectacular strike against Real Sociedad in the Europa League and the next, a last-gasp winner versus Fulham at Craven Cottage.
After the World Cup, the teenager went on to become a vital weapon off the bench to hurt teams with his electric pace against tiring legs.
Impressively, the Argentine has significantly developed his game over the course of this season and is now a bona fide starter in the team. He is arguably the squad’s most dangerous attacker.
According to Diogo Dalot, it was obvious from day one that the youngster had something special about him.
Speaking to Stadium Astro the full back claimed, “when he started to come into the first team, we knew straight away that he had the qualities”.
“He just needed to work really hard in training, then the opportunities will start to come and then it will be up to him to show us teammates and show us as a club that he deserved it”.
The defender continued to wax lyrical on him and praised his efforts in this campaign but also tempered expectations by stating that the hard work has only just begun.
“I think he’s making a very good season, he needs to know that the expectations, the responsibility, the demands will become higher and higher when he starts scoring goals, when he starts playing good”.
“In the highest level everything will increase, and he has to keep his head in a good place which I always help him here inside the dressing room. But ultimately it will be up to him if he wants to reach the top”.
Whilst the 19 year old’s game is far from complete and he can still drift in and out of games, he is objectively one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League, if not Europe.
This is backed up by statistics, as no teenager has scored or assisted more goals in the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils will be hoping the player’s fine form can help them end the season on somewhat of a positive note, starting with a titanic tussle against arch rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
A crucial FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City is also only two weeks around the corner, where Garnacho will surely be aiming to make a massive mark.
