On the list of the most-streamed Nigerian artists of 2023 released by TurnTable Charts, which is Nigeria’s only aggregate chart, Asake topped the list with 654 million streams. Asake’s list-topping feat is a mark of the sensational 2023 he enjoyed courtesy of the release of his highly successful sophomore album “Work of Art,” which had the hit singles “Amapiano,” “2:30,” “Basquiat,” and the record-breaking No. 1 song “Lonely At The Top.” With the release of his sophomore album and his debut album still raking in streams, Asake garnered 654 million streams across Apple Music, Boomplay, Spotify, and YouTube.
Seyi Vibez is second on the list with 533 million streams after releasing two albums and two EPs. Hitmaker and Grammy nominee Davido is No. 3 on the list with 328 streams courtesy of his record-breaking fourth album, “Timeless.” Omah Lay comes in at No. 4 with 301 million streams after releasing the deluxe version of his debut album “Boy Alone,” while Burna Boy rounds off the top 5 with 282 million streams, aided by the release of his Grammy-nominated seventh album “I Told Them.”

Drake is now two million dollars richer after a Super Bowl gamble, but he’s aiming to pass his earnings on to someone else. On Saturday, January 10, the rapper placed a $1.5 million bet—on Stake, in whom he is a stakeholder—that the Kansas City Chiefs would beat the San Francisco 49ers. Drake won, big time. The bet he wagered turned into a $2.3 million prize, but the “Rich Flex” rapper intends to bless a special person with the cash.
A day before kickoff, the chart-topping artist reportedly took to his Instagram Story with a screenshot of his wager and his multi-million-dollar plan. “If I win somebody getting super blessed at the show tmrw,” Drake explained on his show in St. Louis, MO. He also reposted his screenshot onto his feed with a different caption while showing love to Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who plays for the Chiefs. “I can’t bet against the swifties @stake,” he wrote.
3. South Africa: Nadia Nakai shares snippet of her single featuring Zakes Bantwini and Shekhinah
Back in the studio, Zimbabwean-South African rapper and television personality Nadia Nakai, also known as Bragga, shared a snippet of her song that features Zakes Bantwini and Shekhinah. Nadia recently released a song, “Never Leave,” featuring Kashcpt, which is a tribute to her late boyfriend, AKA (born Kiernan Forbes). AKA was brutally gunned down last February in Durban; his death has been felt in the hip-hop industry by both fans and artists.
In the snippet of another unnamed song, Nadia reminisces on her relationship with AKA, from how they supported each other to how many plans they had. It is a journey of how much she misses him, as in the hook of the song, Shekhinah sings, “I miss you, message me from heaven.” Taking to Instagram, Bragga shared in her caption, “Snippet Queen.”
4. Davido links up with Paul Pogba and others in Spain
Afrobeats sensation Davido has sparked online conversations with a recent video showing him jetting out of Nigeria to join global superstars like Paul Pogba in Spain. In a video that surfaced online on Tuesday, February 14, the “Unavailable” crooner was captured mingling with football icons Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann, along with Neymar and Chris Brown, as they celebrated the birthday of Barcelona forward Memphis Depay.
The viral clip features Davido warmly greeting former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, igniting speculation and excitement among fans online. However, it’s worth noting that Pogba, currently with Juventus, is serving a two-year ban for alleged doping, adding a layer of intrigue to the encounter.

Inter Miami are all set to face Argentine club, Newell’s Old Boys in their final pre-season friendly in Miami before they kick off their 2024 Major League Soccer season campaign next week. Lionel Messi, who remained out of action for the majority of the team’s tour to Asia, has been cleared to face his boyhood club, as confirmed by manager Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. Speaking at an event held at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center in Miami, the former Barcelona coach revealed that the 36-year-old has regained full fitness and is ready to start against his former side.
Martino told reporters, “Lio (Messi) is fine and will start. He’s a starter.” The World Cup-winning Argentina skipper landed in trouble with Chinese authorities after he failed to play even a minute during the club’s friendly encounter against a selected Hong Kong XI last week. A hamstring injury forced the star player to remain out of action, but his absence on the pitch angered local fans and officials.
