A
s surely as the sun rises in the East and sets in the West, Black stars will slay. Many have attributed this to the overwhelming special events that celebs have to grace that require them to look their best, but I beg to differ. Even on relatively quiet days, these girls still pull out all the stops to make an impression. For instance, last week was a bit toned down with events, but the ladies didn’t take that as an excuse to show up looking drap, or even regular. From Lupita Nyong’o at the Dolce & Gabanna 40th Anniversary event to Zendaya serenading the atmosphere in Paris for another leg of her Challengers movie press tour, Black girls put the period on what it means to slay.
The Looks
Makeup
Kelly Rowland understands how to deliver makeup for dark skin, serving as a good source of inspiration for melanated ladies. Last week, she continued this when she sent vibrations across the fashion space in a chic yet edgy suit paired with a 3D metal pyramid-style bra top. Considering the grit of the fit, she opted for a subtle face beat to soften the ensemble. Here, lightly-filled brows and neutral tones came together to deliver on effortless slay.
Elsewhere, Justine Skye gave another interpretation of makeup for dark skin. At the 2024 iHeartRadio Awards, the singer turned heads in an emerald green caped dress with enough attitude to steal the spotlight. Featuring rosy cheeks, a strong contour, neutral lips, and a fierce wing, the doll-up finished the conversation that her outfit started.
Hair
Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong’o made a stop in the City of Milan for Dolce & Gabanna’s 40th Anniversary. For the event, she opted for an afro up-do that not only spoke fluently in Black culture but added an unexpected, but much-welcome flair to her coordination.
